The Uma Maxi Dress is a classic piece slowly and ethically handcrafted from 100% organic cotton with soft textured stripe detailing. This self-adjustable wrap design provides the perfect balance between a casual and styled look with the special addition of pockets and cute ruffle sleeves for an elegant finish. 

Material

100% Organic Cotton.  Depending on each individual, some find the material sheer. A slip may be worn underneath if desired.

Garment Care

We recommend a gentle, cold water hand wash using natural detergents, and hang drying in the shade. Handcrafted garments are delicate, however, designed to last when treated mindfully with love and care.

Lovingly handmade in India, each piece may vary slightly in colour — a natural part of its unique beauty.

100% Organic Cotton

A breathable, medium-weight cotton with a gentle puckered finish, offering natural texture and comfort.

HANDMADE IN INDIA

Our block colour fabrics are dyed by hand in small batches, allowing each piece to be coloured slowly and evenly. Fabrics are piece-dyed using azo-free dyes, with the process adjusted to suit each shade.

Deeper colours may move through multiple dye baths to build depth and consistency, while lighter tones are dyed with carefully controlled concentrations and close attention to maintain softness and uniform colour. Our white fabrics are left undyed.

Each fabric is then thoroughly washed and softened, allowing the colour to settle naturally while preserving the fabric’s lightness, movement, and feel against the skin.

At the heart of Daughters of India, we believe supporting women to feel empowered is a key component of a positive future.

We have pledged an ongoing monthly donation of $10,000 to support our charity partnerships Sewing the Seeds and Saheli Women.

Sewing the seeds


Sewing the Seeds is a women’s empowerment initiative that uses education and creativity in slow fashion to help break the cycle of poverty for Indian women. Their centre offers training in business, finance, and women’s health, fostering self-confidence in a supportive environment.
 
We have committed to a monthly donation of $5,000 to support their impactful work.

Saheli Women

We’re working with Saheli women to launch Saheli Kapas, a Cotton Project, to support and empower female farmers at the root of the supply chain. Saheli Women believe true fashion starts with the Earth and the women who nurture and farm it.


The pilot begins with five women and their farms, providing them with training, direct income, and ongoing support. By offering access to quality seeds and low-water sustainable practices, we aim to uplift communities while honouring Mother Earth.

We have committed to a monthly donation of $5,000 to support their impactful work.
